MIDI Armband – Project post #6 (April 23rd, 2018)

CURRENT STATE OF WORK
Figure 1: New neoprene armband with laser cut capacitive touch buttons with the Teensy board in the top left of the band
- A Listing of accomplishments made by all group members for the previous week
Chris: Worked on iterating the poster text and design. Aided in the final button layout and laser cutting processes. Helped construct final design and prototype of the device.
Yewon: Cut the new neoprene and sew the velcro with a sewing machine. Laser cutting the copper button then ironed it on the neoprene. Connecting each button to each pin on teensy board with conductive thread. Helped to finalize the code for shift button.
Isaiah: Continued working on Bluetooth implementation, but was ultimately unsuccessful. Finalized code for USB functionality instead. Helped determine the final component layout of the armband.
- A description of problems encountered and outstanding issues
An outstanding issue with our project is the Bluetooth connectivity and interface with Ableton on a laptop. We decided to rely on USB connection for the fashion show and will leave the Bluetooth functionality for a later version. Another outstanding issue is the naming our device. The last problem we have is designing the outer layer of our device and seeing if it is possible to laser cut the material safety without it giving off hazardous by-products.
- A plan for the next week of work
The plan for this week is to finalize our prototype and troubleshoot any outstanding design issues. We intend on testing our Arduino code with the device and prepare for live demoing. We intend on finalizing our poster design and printing it before the fashion show on Sunday. We also intend on finalizing our name as soon as possible. We will also plan on getting pictures of our final design. We look forward to showcasing our project this Sunday!
